MAET Transfer Course: Elementary Education Spring 2007
Instructor: Ed Smith
TE 804--Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice II ~TE 804 was focused around the idea of science, using research to improve the skills of a teacher in the areas of gathering information, analyzing and interpreting data. We were encouraged to think about the tools and resources that we were currently using to teach science, and how we could make our instruction more engaging and meaningful using a variety of tools and resources. |
MAET Year 1: Summer Cohort 2011
This was a hybrid version of the educational technology program at MSU. We met face-to-face on campus for the first two weeks, and then we moved to an online format for the remaining four weeks. We did meet one last time, face-to-face, on the last day of the summer cohort. During this cohort, 3 courses (CEP 810, 811, & 812) of the MAET program were completed in those 6 weeks.
Instructors: Jodi Spicer & Allison Keller
CEP 810--Teaching for Understanding with Technology CEP 811--Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education CEP 812--Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice ~During my hybrid summer 1 cohort, we not only learned how to use technology, but we figured out what to do with our knowledge of specific technological tools in order to help our students learn and develop professionally in the 21st century. I had opportunities to work with my classmates and instructors face-to-face and online. I learned the importance of a personal learning network, TPACK, the UDL framework, and web-based applications. Much of my learning and coursework was geared towards utilizing those tools in my own classroom. |
MAET Year 2: Summer Cohort 2012
This was another hybrid version of the program that was offered the following summer. I enjoyed the first cohort so much, I knew I wanted to take the next 3 courses (CEP 800, 815, & 822) in the same manner as before. I liked the flexibility that the cohorts offered; having that face-to-face time in the beginning, as well as being able to experience an online format in the end.
Instructors: Punya Mishra, David Goodrich, & Laura Terry
CEP 800--Learning in School and Other Settings CEP 815--Technology and Leadership CEP 822--Approaches to Educational Research ~Summer 2 cohort was another great experience learning and utilizing an abundance of technological tools. We were encouraged to think creatively, but most importantly in a purposeful way. Much of this cohort focused on the idea of TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) which encouraged us to use technology as a tool to enhance our existing pedagogy and content knowledge. We collaborated, shared, and discussed ideas and tools with our peers to formulate projects centered around how people understand certain topics, video editing, a technology based grant proposal, and developing a personal web portfolio. |
MAET: Spring 2013
Instructors: Leigh Wolf, Andrea Zellner, & Sean Leahy
CEP 820--Teaching K-12 Students Online ~During this course, I was able to create my own hybrid LMS that I could actually utilize during the school year with my own third graders. Because I was using it with my own classroom, we had face-to-face interactions as well as the online component. I was able to explore which learning management system (LMS) program was going to be most conducive to my topic: Organisms Have Character. After researching a variety of LMS programs, I chose Haiku to create and design my unit. Along the way, I kept a notebook through Google Doc to document my progress, ask questions, and communicate my thoughts and ideas with my instructor. I learned what elements work best for a hybrid learning environment and which web 2.0 tools would prove to be the most creative, engaging, and beneficial to my students. If you click the image to the left, you can sign in to Haiku and view my site. Username: msu Password: guest1 |

TE 846--Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners ~TE 846 was centered mostly around literacy in the classroom. We selected one or two students to work with during the course. While working with our focal student(s), we administered formal and informal assessments to see which areas were strengths and weaknesses pertaining to literacy. We then designed specific lesson plans for our student(s) and followed them through their literacy journey. Over the course of my study, I gained an abundance of knowledge; allowing me to see where I could better my own teaching in the area of literacy. My final analysis project contains all of my work completed with my focal student over the entire semester. |
MAET Capstone: Summer 2013
Instructors: Matthew Koehler, Andrea Zellner, Joshua Rosenburg, & William Cain
CEP 807--Capstone in Educational Technology ~To conclude the Masters of Educational Technology program, I have created this online portfolio. Assignments and projects that were created throughout my MAET journey were gathered, reflected upon, and then presented in an online format. Key elements of this course were: Collaboration, reflection, and anticipation. |
